Pre-journey haiku?

A brand-spankin' new journey lies at my feet, and I do believe an off-the-cuff "haiku" is in order...

seattle drizzle
dew on the leaves
hearty cumulus clouds
how far east did they form?

Alright, alright, all you specialists will notice my lack of attention to proper syllabic form and rhythm. The gist of the tacit collection of words, however, really sums up my feelings as I get ready to depart again.

This trip will provide a different angle still to my Japan experience, but I feel perhaps more excited than ever. Last summer's stability in Kanagawa-prefecture fades into this year's nomadic scholar style. A week in Tokyo is to be spent reconnecting with old friends, shopping, and more likely than not drinking too many nama (draught) beers and staying out too late in the cramped corridors of magical Tokyo. Then I'll shift gears and head to the Kansai region, home to the old capital of 1000 years, Kyoto, entering into its wondrous lair of sticky, humid air and thick, rich history. The itinerary is as of yet unknown, but I do know I'll spend my nights in Buddhist temples and my days rambling from temple to temple. At times I'll be teaching the basics of Buddhist Art History to wide-eyed undergrads from Washington, and at others I'll be soaking it all up, wide-eyed myself.

Ganbarimasu!
